If you are going to prove anything, don’t let anybody know it.
Parallel pipelining is the art of doing more than one thing at a time—strategically. (Some of my fellow Carneg-nerds may be thinking about false binaries right about now, which is apt!) It's not multitasking in the chaotic, productivity-slaying sense. It’s about working multiple angles, multiple paths, multiple bets... all moving forward at once to maximize momentum and impact.
Sounds obvious? Maybe. But it’s easier said than done—especially when the first option feels promising. Let’s talk about how I learned this lesson:
In my first recruiting job, I was on a 100% contingency model—they call it “eat what you kill” because I only got paid when a candidate I represented got hired.
When I first got started I was ignorant and naive, and so as soon as a candidate was called in for an interview, I started to see dollar signs! I immediately began calculating my potential fee on the deal, counting the proverbial chickens before the metaphorical eggs even had a chance to warm up.
So cringey right? I can tell you’re embarrassed for me just reading this.
